O Elizabeth

Elizabeth pochází z Velké Británie a ve FOR YOU učí konverzaci.
Na angličtině miluje, jak spojuje lidi napříč světem – je jazykem, který propojuje kultury a otevírá dveře k novým příležitostem.
Už během studia spolupracovala se studenty s dyslexií a pomáhala jim pochopit jazyk i literaturu přirozenou, lidskou cestou. Ve výuce klade důraz na otevřenou komunikaci, přátelskou atmosféru a prostor pro chyby, které vnímá jako přirozenou součást učení. Jejím cílem je, aby se studenti cítili jistě a angličtinu začali vnímat jako příležitost, ne překážku.

Co ji inspiruje
Elizabeth věnuje svůj čas dobrovolnictví, mentoringu a studentským klubům. Miluje umění, tanec, čtení a témata spojená s udržitelností.
Právě díky těmto zájmům do svých hodin přináší kreativitu, nadhled a spojení s reálným světem.
Učení pro ni není jen práce – je to způsob, jak inspirovat druhé a pomáhat jim růst.

5 questions for Elizabeth

What do you enjoy most about English? And when did it start?

To start off with, I quite enjoy the sound of it! It’s a very versatile language that is quite ‘neutral’ if you could describe it in that way. Many things can sound good in English such as songs, books as it’s quite agreeable for most people It also isn’t as hard to speak as Czech/Slovak which can benefit learners! Mostly I enjoy the way it connects people around the globe! It has made communication so much more fluent globally and has been a critical part to kick-start globalisation. I took it for granted that I could (and others) could speak English but then I consider the amount of people in my very multi-national school and work and friends that I wouldn’t be able to experience if we all didn’t speak English.

What led you to start teaching – and what do you like about it?

I first started teaching over a year ago and it was mainly because it was something that I was confident in and that many students require support in. I was particularly targeted for helping students with dyslexia to understand English language and Literature for the GCSE course as well as learning Reading comprehension.

What type of students do you feel closest to – and why them?

I feel closest to students who just try. They don’t have to be perfect in anything as long as I can see their determination; I also am encouraged by questions as I can tell that the student is very self-motivated. I also have a soft spot for students who enjoy literature as I can relate to them and it is interesting for me to understand their interpretations of texts.

What problems do students most often struggle with – and how do you help them?

Students most often struggle (may not be as applicable here as I mainly teach English language and literature for the GCSE course) but creative interpretation of the text (literature text) , linking it back to the original question that they were asked rather than rambling on about something less relevant, terminology names, extended responses, formulating developed answers, and using advanced vocabulary.

When you imagine your ideal lesson, what does it look like?

My ideal lesson would be one that both me and the student both feel comfortable enough to make mistakes and be able to ask many questions, laugh but still be able relate lessons back to context and improve! I enjoy a motivated student!
